Capital Jazz to refund previously unrefunded fees for cancelled Jazz
“SuperCruises”
BALTIMORE, MD – Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced today
that his Consumer Protection Division has entered into a settlement with Maryland-based Capital
Jazz, a local promoter that promotes music-themed events including annual Jazz “SuperCruises.”
In 2021 and 2022, Capital Jazz was forced to cancel its SuperCruises because of the Pandemic.
The settlement with Capital Jazz and the company’s owner, Clifford Hunte, requires Capital Jazz
to return nearly $60,000 in fees the company owed to consumers had not previously refunded to
consumers. In a March 2024 settlement with the Attorney General, Royal Caribbean, the
operator of the cruise line on which the SuperCruises were scheduled to occur, returned more
than $1.3 million to consumers.
“Marylanders deserve to get their money back when a business fails to deliver the goods and
services they paid for, even in unexpected and unusual circumstances like a global
pandemic,” said Attorney General Brown. “This settlement ensures that consumers who
trusted Capital Jazz with their hard-earned money for vacations that never happened will finally
receive the full refunds they deserve.”
Under this settlement, Capital Jazz has agreed to return fees that consumers paid when they
purchased their cruise tickets that had not been included in refunds previously paid to consumer
by Capital Jazz. The company has also agreed to purchase cancellation insurance that should
help ensure that in any future mass-cancellation event, consumers who purchased cruise tickets
will get prompt refunds. Capital Jazz has also agreed to pay $50,000.00 to the Attorney
General’s Office, which amount increases to $100,000 should Capital Jazz breach the
settlement.
