BALTIMORE, MD – Today, Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced his decision not to seek charges in the Sunday, April 20, 2025, fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred in Oxon Hill, Prince George’s County, Maryland.

On Sunday, April 20, 2025, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) officers responded to a 911 call that reported a possible shooting or cutting in the 100 block of St. George Boulevard in Oxon Hill, Maryland. While enroute, officers were advised that the individual involved may also be a suspect in an earlier domestic-related incident involving a reported stabbing and arson. The first two officers to arrive on the scene encountered a man, later identified as Aevon Bucknor, Jr., who was armed with a knife. Both officers issued multiple verbal commands instructing Bucknor to drop the weapon. Bucknor did not comply and instead advanced toward the officers. As a result, the officers backed away and discharged their service weapons, striking Bucknor. Despite being struck, Bucknor remained standing and walked several feet away from the officers before he collapsed to the ground and dropped the knife. Officers rendered medical aid until emergency medical services arrived. Bucknor was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) began investigating the fatal officer-involved shooting on Sunday, April 20, 2025, and concluded its investigation on September 16, 2025. After completing its investigation and evaluating all the available evidence, the Office of the Attorney General has determined that the subject officers did not commit a crime under Maryland law. Accordingly, the Attorney General has declined to prosecute any of the officers in this case.

A copy of the IID’s detailed investigative findings and analysis of relevant legal issues can be found in its declination report.
