BALTIMORE, MD – The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in the city of Baltimore, Maryland.

The preliminary investigation revealed that on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at approximately 9:14 p.m., officers with the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) were responding to a 911 call for a person being threatened with a gun in the 6800 block of Bank Street. The caller provided a detailed description of the man and indicated that the man fled the area on a white bicycle. As officers were responding, they saw a man in the 6500 block of Eastern Avenue riding a white bicycle and wearing clothing matching the description provided by the caller. While officers were attempting to detain the man, early review of body-worn camera footage shows the man discharged a handgun. Multiple officers fired their service weapons, striking the man. Officers rendered emergency medical aid until emergency medical services (EMS) arrived on the scene. The man was pronounced dead on scene. Officers recovered a handgun near the man. No officers were injured during the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident, including cell phone or private surveillance video, is asked to contact the IID at (410) 576–7070 or by email at [email protected].

The IID will generally release the name of the decedent and involved officers within two business days of the incident, although that period may be extended, if necessary, pursuant to IID protocol.

The officers on scene were equipped with body-worn cameras, which recorded the incident. The video will be released in accordance with BPD and IID policies.

Pursuant to Maryland law, the OAG is required to investigate all police-involved fatalities in the State of Maryland. The OAG and BPD have reached an agreement to allow for the Attorney General’s investigation while still allowing BPD to meet the investigatory obligations if its federal consent decree.
