BALTIMORE, MD – The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in the city of Baltimore, Maryland.

The preliminary investigation revealed that on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at approximately 12:15 p.m., an officer with the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) in a marked cruiser while stopped at a stop sign, encountered a man walking onto a shopping center parking lot at the intersection of Erdman Avenue and Ravenwood Avenue. The man approached the cruiser. During the encounter, the man ran from the officer. The officer who remained in his vehicle initially followed the man in his marked cruiser and later exited his cruiser to pursue the man on foot. During the foot pursuit, the man pointed a firearm at the officer. The officer discharged his firearm, striking the man. Officers rendered aid until emergency medical services assumed care. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. A firearm was recovered at the scene. The officer was not injured during the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident, including cell phone or private surveillance video, is asked to contact the IID at (410) 576–7070 or by email at [email protected].

The IID will generally release the name of the involved officers within two business days of the incident, although that period may be extended, if necessary, pursuant to IID protocol. No additional information will be shared at this time regarding the identity of the man who is in critical condition.

The officer on scene was equipped with body-worn camera that recorded the incident. The video will be released in accordance with BPD and IID policies.

Pursuant to Maryland law, the OAG is required to investigate all police-involved incidents that result in the death of an individual or in injuries likely to result in death in the State of Maryland. The OAG and BPD have agreed that the Attorney General’s investigation may proceed while BPD meets its investigatory obligations in its federal consent decree.
