BALTIMORE, MD – The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on Thursday, May 14, 2026, in the city of Baltimore, Maryland.

The preliminary investigation revealed that on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at approximately 9:12 a.m., officers with the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) received a 911 call for an armed individual threatening to kill himself in the 800 block of Caton Avenue. An officer driving in the area encountered the man on foot in the 3300 block of Wilkens Avenue, and notified dispatch that the man fired a shot. The officer exited his cruiser and issued commands. The officer and another arriving officer discharged their firearms, striking the man. Officers rendered aid until emergency medical services assumed care. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. A handgun was recovered at the scene near the man. No officers were injured during the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident, including cell phone or private surveillance video, is asked to contact the IID at (410) 576–7070 or by email at [email protected].

The IID will generally release the name of the decedent and involved officers within two business days of the incident, although that period may be extended, if necessary, pursuant to IID protocol.

The officers on scene were equipped with body-worn cameras that recorded the incident. The video will be released in accordance with BPD and IID policies.

Pursuant to Maryland law, the OAG is required to investigate all police-involved fatalities in the State of Maryland. The OAG and BPD have agreed that the Attorney General’s investigation may proceed while BPD meets its investigatory obligations in its federal consent decree.
