BALTIMORE, MD – The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in Middle River, Baltimore County, Maryland.
The preliminary investigation revealed that on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at approximately 6:00 a.m., officers with the Baltimore County Police Department (BCoPD) responded to a call for service for an attempt to locate an armed female in the 1000 block of Carroll Island Road. Officers approached a vehicle occupied by a female parked at the end of the road. During the interaction, a BCoPD officer fired his service weapon. Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived on the scene and transported the female occupant to an area hospital, where she remains in critical condition. No officers were injured during the incident. A firearm was recovered inside the vehicle near the female occupant.

The IID will generally release the name of the decedent and any involved officers within two business days of the incident, although that period may be extended, if necessary, pursuant to IID protocol.
The officer was equipped with a body-worn camera. The IID will generally release body-worn and/or dash camera footage within 20 business days of an incident. There may be situations where more than 20 days is necessary, including if investigators need more time to complete witness interviews, if there are technical delays caused by the need to shield the identities of civilian witnesses, or to allow family members to view the video before it is released to the public.
