“For more than four decades, Congressman Steny Hoyer has fought for Maryland and for the nation. His work strengthening our economy, protecting workers, and delivering federal investments has touched every corner of our State. Through his landmark ‘Make It In America’ initiative, which he launched in 2010, he championed American manufacturing and job creation, resulting in twenty-two bipartisan bills becoming law—including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the CHIPS and Science Act. Because of the laws he helped pass, millions of Americans with disabilities joined the workforce, countless lives were saved through expanded health coverage, and our elections became more accessible and secure.

I had the privilege of serving with Steny in Congress, where I witnessed firsthand his tireless work on behalf of Maryland and the nation. His personal commitment to service was evident when he visited me in Iraq in 2004—a gesture that meant more to me than words can express. In 2017, I accompanied him to Puerto Rico in the aftermath of the devastating Hurricanes Irma and Maria to assess the damage and fight for recovery resources our fellow Americans desperately needed. He was there to swear me into the 117th Congress, and he continues to serve as our leader in the District 25 legislative team.

Throughout our time together, he provided me—as he did for countless others—with invaluable mentoring, guidance, and advice that shaped my own approach to public service. Steny was a self-described politician who understood that term in its truest sense: to harness the power of government to improve people's lives. He was a statesman who never forgot the people he served.

He has always led with integrity and an unwavering belief that government can, and should, improve people's lives. Maryland is stronger because of his service, and I'm deeply grateful for his mentorship, friendship, and principled leadership.”
