DESCRIPTION:  The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State's legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland's 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.

The OAG is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated attorney to serve as a full-time, contractual Assistant Attorney General (AAG) representing the Prince George's County Child Support Administration (PGCCSA). As the jurisdiction with the highest volume of active child support cases in Maryland, PGCCSA plays a critical role in ensuring that children and families receive the financial support they need to thrive. This position is part of a collaborative legal team that includes eight Assistant Attorneys General, led by a Supervising Attorney and a Lead Supervising Attorney, and supported by a Legal Secretary.

The AAG will primarily represent PGCCSA before the Circuit Court for Prince George's County in proceedings involving the establishment of paternity and child support, modification of child support orders, and judicial enforcement actions. Responsibilities include drafting and reviewing pleadings and motions, litigating child support matters in court, and preparing and electronically filing proposed orders. The position requires frequent interaction with child support and judiciary personnel, litigants and their attorneys, law enforcement, and other stakeholders in the Maryland child support program.

This is a meaningful opportunity for an attorney who is passionate about public service and committed to supporting Maryland families through impactful legal work.

EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidates will have a minimum of two years of litigation experience, as well as strong analytical, writing and advocacy skills. Candidates must have a proven ability to work independently, manage client expectations, and develop and implement legal strategies that lead to favorable outcomes. Prior admission to the Maryland Bar is required. Experience in family or civil law and proficiency with the Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC) system will be helpful but is not required.

SUBMISSION: Interested persons should submit the following documents in pdf format: (1) a cover letter; (2) a resume; (3) one writing sample; and (4) a list of at least three references, one of whom must be a current or previous supervisor or mentor.
